For the week of December 22nd, first-time unemployment claims dropped by 12,000 compared to the previous week’s numbers. The claims fell to 350,000, the lowest figure since March 2008.
The monthly unemployment claims average is now at 356,750. Due to the holidays though, the numbers may actually be higher. As many offices were closed for the holiday weekend the Labor Department used estimates to gauge the actual rates of several states so we can expect these numbers to be revised within the next few weeks.
According to the Labor Department continuous unemployment claims also fell by 32,000 to 32.1 million (seasonally adjusted) for the week of December 15th.
