Five Personal Finance Smart Phone Apps

With many of us toting a portable computer in our pockets or purses, loading up some smart phone apps is a good idea to keep on top of your bills and save some money in the process. Just a note: not all of these apps are available of every platform.

Your Bank

Many of the smaller and larger banks allow you to access your accounts via a smart phone app. If you are heading to the grocery store or out to shop, it might be a good idea to check your balance before you go. Depending on the bank you might be able to deposit a check right from the phone.

Your Credit Card

Can’t remember if you paid your bill, or what the outstanding balance is? Download an app from your credit card company to keep your cards in check.

GasBuddy

This handy little app will help you locate the closest gas station or the cheapest gas station depending on preference. Two to four cents a gallon might not seem like a lot, but as they say, pennies do add up.

RedLaser

This handy little app scans the bar code of any item in the store and it delivers detailed information about the product, including whether you can buy it at a better price nearby.

OurGroceries

A simple app that keeps your shopping list under control. One great feature is that it can synchronize the list with everyone in your household, this way you can make sure that all the food you want and need is taken care of and you don’t come home without the name-brand toaster pastries.

Great apps like these make our busy day easier and they won’t make you take out a personal loan just to buy them. Many of these apps are free and some may cost $1.99, but in the long run you will save a lot more.
